Temple Bar Hotel

The Temple Bar Hotel is a modern 3 star hotel located in Dublin city. The hotel offers a range of facilities including 129 bedrooms comprising single, double, twin and triple rooms and 12 executive rooms. The hotel also has 4 meeting rooms, one large conference room, a restaurant, a bar and a nightclub.

The hotel was already looking at ways to improve resource efficiency and reduce its environmental impact whilst at the same time making financial savings. As such the hotel had already implemented a number of measures prior to the Greenbusiness visit:

• installed a key-card system in all bedrooms to switch electricity on/off – this ensures all power to the room is switched off when the customer leaves the room
• replaced 90% of old-style light bulbs with energy efficient types
• fitted thermostatic heating controls in all bedrooms rather than centralised air conditioning
• fitted low-flow shower heads in 50% of the bedrooms
• reduced the number of towels provided in each bedroom, removing small handtowels and facecloths, meaning less laundry
• reduced the number of pillows provided per double bedroom to two (with two additional pillows kept in the wardrobe), to reduce the amount of pillow case washing
• replaced small toiletry bottles with dispensers that can be refilled from bulk containers
• begun segregating hotel waste to increase recycling where possible

Greenbusiness was able to suggest various further measures to consider, with large potential environmental and cost savings.
